2,2,4-Trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol is a glycol ether that has been used in wastewater treatment as an alternative to chlorine. It is also used as a co-solvent in the manufacture of polymers and coatings. In water treatment, 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol is added to the wastewater to remove chlorophyll a. This substance has been shown to have redox potentials that are lower than those of hydrogen fluoride and methyl ethyl.
