3-(Ethylphenylamino)propanenitrile is a non-narcotic analgesic that is used in the relief of acute and chronic pain. It has been shown to inhibit the transcription-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of viral RNA, and has also been shown to be effective against viruses such as hepatitis C. This drug is thought to act by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins at the ribosome level, which prevents virus replication. 3-(Ethylphenylamino)propanenitrile also inhibits protein synthesis in mammalian cells, which may cause damage to the host plant. The drug does not have any effect on intestinal ganglia or subesophageal ganglion neurons in rats.
