Descrição:Edetate trisodium is a chemical substance that is used as an antidote for lead poisoning. It binds to the toxic metal and prevents it from being absorbed by the body. Edetate trisodium has been shown to be effective against lymphoblastoid cells, which are considered to be a target tissue for this chemical. This drug also has transcriptase activity and inhibits protein synthesis in Toxoplasma gondii, an obligate intracellular parasite. The organic acids produced by Toxoplasma gondii have been found to inhibit the transcriptional activity of edetate trisodium, suggesting that this drug may also be useful in controlling bacterial infections.
