5-Bromo-2-nitrobenzotrifluoride (5BNBF) is a nucleophilic arylation agent. It can be used to synthesize pyrazoles by reacting with hydrazines, hydroxylamine derivatives, or carbonyl compounds. 5BNBF is also used as an electrophilic brominating agent in the synthesis of chlorinated phenols. 5BNBF reacts with activated chlorine and chloride ions to generate reactive halogen species that are capable of attacking aromatic rings. This reaction occurs at room temperature and does not require any special precautions.
