3-(Trifluoromethyl)phenylhydrazine (3-TFHP) is a diphenol that is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of dyestuffs and pharmaceuticals. 3-TFHP has been shown to react with carboxylic acids and amines, forming triazoles. The reaction time depends on the functional groups present in the reactants. The compound is chiral at the trifluoromethyl group, which can be oxidized to form a reactive fluorine or chlorine atom. 3-TFHP has three functional groups: a carboxylic acid, a phenolic hydroxyl, and a triazole. Zn2+ ions are often used as catalysts when synthesizing this compound.
