3-Isopropyl-6-methyl-benzene-1,2-diol (3IMB) is a naturally occurring food additive that has antioxidative activities. It is usually found in the form of its oxidation products, such as 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde (DMB), 3,5-dimethoxybenzoic acid (DMBA), and 3,5-dimethylbenzoic acid (DMBA). These compounds are used as reagents in analytical chemistry for determining the presence of nitrite. The dimer form of 3IMB can be obtained by freeze drying or by reacting with sodium nitrite.
