2,4,5-Trimethylphenol is a phenolic compound that is found in urine. It has been shown to be effective at killing mosquitoes and other insects. 2,4,5-Trimethylphenol can be synthesized by reacting metal hydroxides with aliphatic hydrocarbons in the presence of acid catalysts under temperature and pressure conditions that are greater than atmospheric pressure.
