2-Methylcyclohexanone is an organic compound that is a colorless liquid at room temperature. It is classified as an enolate and has the chemical formula of CH3COCHO. The asymmetric synthesis of 2-methylcyclohexanone can be achieved by adding sodium ethoxide to ethyl formate in the presence of anhydrous sodium. This method produces a 1,3-diketone that can be hydrolyzed to give 2-methylcyclohexanone.
