Cis-aconitic acid is a dicarboxylic acid that is a major intermediate in the citric acid cycle. It is an important metabolite of glucose and fatty acids, and it plays a role in regulating energy metabolism. Cis-aconitic acid has been shown to increase the transcriptional activity of genes involved in the citric acid cycle. This compound also interacts with NADH to form an intramolecular hydrogen bond, which stabilizes the molecule's structure.
