Tetraphenyl lead is a coordination complex with the formula Pb(OCH). It is a hydroxyl group, supercritical, and can be used to oxidize aromatic hydrocarbons. Tetraphenyl lead has been shown to react with potassium dichromate to produce an oxidative carbonylation product. Tetraphenyl lead also reacts with halides and iodoacetic acid to form chromatographically resolved products. The reaction vessel can be composed of glass or stainless steel. Tetraphenyl lead decomposes in air at temperatures above 100°C, forming tetraphenyltin (Sn(OCH)). Tetraphenyltin is a less reactive organometallic that possesses optical properties similar to those of tetraphenyl lead.
