3-Chloro-5-nitrophenol is a synthetic chemical that is used as an immunoassay reagent. It can be used to measure the concentration of immunoglobulin G (IgG) in serum or plasma. 3-Chloro-5-nitrophenol binds to IgG by forming an amide bond, and this binding is competitively inhibited by other molecules with amide groups. This makes 3-chloro-5-nitrophenol useful for measuring IgG concentrations in patients who have been administered drugs with amide groups, such as ampicillin. The technique can also be applied to plant physiology and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
