2-Methyl-5-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is a metabolite of the anesthetic propofol. It is also known as 2-methyl-5-(propyl)cyclohexanol or propofol hydroxide. It has been shown to be a depressant drug with a sedative and hypnotic effect, which may be due to its ability to inhibit mitochondrial membrane potential. This compound has also been shown to have antibacterial properties, which may be due to the inhibition of fatty acid synthesis. 2-Methyl-5-(propyl)cyclohexanol has also been found in the essential oil of methyl anthranilate, which is used for flavoring purposes in food and drink.
