In addition, it is an important intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds such as anilines, amines, and chlorinated hydrocarbons. This chemical has been shown to have a potential use as a broad-spectrum antibiotic against Gram-positive bacteria including Bacillus subtilis and Enterococcus faecalis. It also has significant activity against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The mechanism of action for o-isopropylaniline is not well understood but may involve its ability to act as an irreversible oxidation agent by reacting with sulfhydryl groups
