This compound is used as a solvent and as an intermediate in the production of other chemicals. 1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoro-2-phenylpropan-2-ol has been shown to be able to dissolve styrene (a monomer) and polyaniline (a polymer), although it does not dissolve alcohols such as benzene.
