2-Heptyl-malonic acid is an organic solvent that belongs to the group of carboxylic acids. It is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 190°C. 2-Heptyl-malonic acid has been shown to have antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as being active against hepatitis and Alzheimer's disease. 2-Heptyl-malonic acid inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting the transcription factor NFκB, which is responsible for the production of many proinflammatory cytokines. The hydroxyl group in this compound can react with aluminium to form insoluble aluminium hydroxide and aluminum oxyhydroxide.
