Tin(II) tartrate hydrate crystals are used as model system for physiological effects of potassium, sodium and calcium salts. Tin(II) tartrate hydrate is a crystalline compound with the formula (SnO)C4H6O6·3H2O. It has been shown to inhibit enzyme activities in vitro and cell nuclei in vivo. The effect on cell nuclei is due to its ability to bind to DNA. Tin(II) tartrate hydrate can also be used as an inhibitor molecule in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy studies.
