Descrição:Octadecyl acetate is a monolayer that consists of an aliphatic hydrocarbon chain with the hydroxyl group at the end. It has a fatty acid tail and is used in the preparation of polymeric matrices for protease activity. Octadecyl acetate inhibits proteolytic enzymes, which are proteins that break down other proteins. This inhibition can be accomplished by binding to the active site of the enzyme or by altering conformational changes in the enzyme molecule. The reaction products of octadecyl acetate have been analyzed using analytical methods such as chemical ionization mass spectrometry and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Octadecyl acetate can also be used to study transfer reactions and is a good model for carbonyl compounds.
