trans-1,2-Dichlorocyclohexane (covidol) is a deuterium isotope effect agent that has been used in the prevention of influenza pandemic. Covidol binds to the flu virus's hemagglutinin and blocks the virus from attaching to the host cell. Covidol also inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory cytokine by inhibiting lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced nitric oxide and prostaglandin synthesis. Covidol is also an effective inhibitor of acyl halides such as acrolein and crotonaldehyde.
