It is used as an intermediate in the production of gabapentin and malonic acid. 3-Decanone has been shown to inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity in vitro, although it has not been tested at concentrations that would be expected in vivo. In addition, 3-decanone has been shown to be a hydrogen bond donor, which may make it reactive. This reactivity can be detected by using assays such as chemical ionization or water vapor.
