It can be used to detect the presence of epidermal growth factor (EGF) in body fluids or tissues. 2-Ethyl-1,3-benzothiazole has been shown to bind to EGFR and stimulate its receptor activity. This results in increased EGF production and proliferation of cells. 2-Ethyl-1,3-benzothiazole has also been shown to have antimicrobial properties and may be useful for the treatment of microbial infections.
