16-Methyl-20-oxopregna-5,16-dien-3-beta-yl acetate is a chemical compound that has shown chemoselective inhibition of the enzyme activated carbonic anhydrase. This inhibition leads to accumulation of acid in the urine and an increase in renal excretion of chloride ions. The synthesis of this compound is efficient and can be achieved by using a variety of functional groups. 16-Methyl-20-oxopregna-5,16-dien-3 beta yl acetate is also found to have a potent inhibitory effect on carbohydrate chemistry.
