Monobenzyl phenylmalonate is a carboxylic acid that is decarboxylated to form benzoic acid. It has a low melting point and is soluble in organic solvents. The reactive nature of monobenzyl phenylmalonate means that it can cause chemical burns if it comes into contact with skin or eyes.
