7-Methyl-5-nitro-1H-indazole is an analog of amodiaquine, a drug used in the treatment of malaria. The compound has been shown to be hepatotoxic, which may be due to its metabolic conversion to an amino group. 7-Methyl-5-nitro-1H-indazole inhibits the growth of malaria parasites by causing DNA damage and inhibition of protein synthesis. It is metabolized by hydroxylation and excreted as a stable metabolite. This drug has been shown to be potent against malarial parasites and has anti-malarial properties that are similar to those of amodiaquine.
