It is synthesized through the reaction of anisole with ethylene and methyl acrylate in a laser light-induced radical polymerization. 1,4-DEB is a low molecular weight compound with an electron attachment point that can be used for microscopy. This molecule has been found to have good permeation properties in gel permeation chromatography experiments.
