26-Hydroxyfusidic acid is a pharmaceutical drug that is used in the treatment of skin infections. It inhibits bacterial growth by interfering with microbial protein synthesis and DNA replication. 26-Hydroxyfusidic acid has been shown to be effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This drug also has anti-inflammatory effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. 26-Hydroxyfusidic acid can be produced through the reaction of fusidic acid with acetonitrile in an rp-hplc at a flow rate of 1mL/min for 30 minutes using a C18 column. The purity of synthetic 26-hydroxyfusidic acid was determined to be 99.7%.
