2,5-Dichloro-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (2,5-DCEOD) is a chemical compound that has been used as an ancillary for the synthesis of other compounds. It is also used as a solvent and as a zerovalent reagent in solid state spectroscopies. 2,5-DCEOD has been shown to be effective in organic solvents but not in water or methanol. This compound can be used to dehalogenate organometallic compounds or to activate metal ions for the preparation of cationic polymerization catalysts. 2,5-DCEOD has been found to be exothermic and undergoes decomposition reactions at high temperatures.
