2'-Methylbiphenyl-3-ylamine is a ligand used in devices that can be used to measure the oxidation and reduction of transition metals in electrochemical reactions. The 2'-methylbiphenyl-3-ylamine molecule has been shown to have strong optical properties, which may be utilized in the development of new organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) or organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs). These compounds are also used as monomers for the synthesis of diarylethene, which is an efficient OLED material. 2'-Methylbiphenyl-3-ylamine has also been shown to have high quantum efficiency for use in atomic force microscopy.
