Descrição

Tomopenem is a carbapenem antibiotic that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the penicillin-binding protein, which prevents the synthesis of peptidoglycan. Tomopenem has been shown to have a single-dose pharmacokinetics in humans and is active against microbial infections caused by organisms with an organic anion transporter including Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. This drug has also been shown to inhibit the production of reactive nitrogen species (RNS) such as nitric oxide and peroxynitrite. Tomopenem has not been found to be effective against bacteria that produce beta-lactamases, such as carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae.
