Vancomycin CDP-1 is a derivative of vancomycin, which is a peptide antibiotic that binds to the D-alanyl-D-alanine termini on the cell wall and inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. Vancomycin CDP-1 has a spectrum of activity against gram positive bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecium. It can be used for the treatment of infections caused by these bacteria. Vancomycin CDP-1 has been shown to have some antimicrobial activity against Gram negative bacteria such as Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but not against Enterobacteriaceae or Klebsiella pneumoniae. The molecule binds to anion and proton residues on the peptidoglycan. Vancomycin CDP-1 also has high affinity for certain sequences
