5-Bromo-6-chloro-3-indoxyl-alpha-D-galactopyranoside is a fluorogenic substrate that can be used for the detection of enzyme activity. This substrate reacts with an enzyme to produce a product that emits light when excited by a laser. 5BClGALP has been shown to be useful in detecting the activity of enzymes such as beta-galactosidase, alpha-galactosidase, and beta-glucuronidase.
