2-(3,4-Dihydroxyphenyl)acetonitrile (2HPA) is an isomeric molecule that can exist in two forms: a tautomeric equilibrium of enol and keto forms. It has been shown to react with dienophile molecules, such as benzaldehyde, to form a conjugate acid. This reaction produces the product 2-(3,4-dihydroxybenzylidene)acetonitrile. The equilibration of 2HPA is reversible and occurs through the process of tautomerism.
