2-Methoxy-7-methylnaphthalene is a methoxy, cyano, fluoro, chemically, thermodynamic, unsymmetrical, synthesize, photoisomerization, atropisomers, photocyclization and irradiation. This compound can be produced by the elimination of 2-methylnaphthalene with isopropyl alcohol. The elimination reaction is accelerated by light. This compound has been used to study photoisomerization and photocyclization reactions because it contains atropisomers that are formed when irradiated with ultraviolet light. 2-Methoxy-7-methylnaphthalene may also have applications as a chemical intermediate in organic synthesis and as a solvent for rubber products.
