Naphthalene-D8 is a deuterated analog of naphthalene. Naphthalene-D8 is used as a stationary phase in gas chromatography to study the effects of deuterium isotope substitution on the chemical reactivity, physical properties, and phase transition temperatures of organic molecules. The kinetic data obtained from this compound have been shown to be reliable and reproducible. Naphthalene-D8 has been used in analytical methods that are applicable for analysis of fatty acids, as well as compounds with inorganic acid functional groups such as nitrobenzene and hydrochloric acid. Deuterium isotope effect studies have been performed on the molecule at various temperatures.
