1,2-Dibenzoylbenzene is a reactive chemical that reacts with nucleophiles to form ring-opening reactions. The phenyl groups are the reactive sites in 1,2-Dibenzoylbenzene and react with electron-rich compounds. This reaction forms two new rings by attaching to two adjacent carbon atoms on the same or different molecule. In addition, 1,2-Dibenzoylbenzene reacts with fatty acids to form hydroxy derivatives that are more soluble in water than their parent compound. The hydroxy derivative formed from 1,2-Dibenzoylbenzene is peroxynitrite anion (ONOO−).
1,2-Dibenzoylbenzene can also be used as a chemical reaction mechanism for the synthesis of other organic compounds by using it as a starting material. It reacts with certain metal salts and amines to produce dyes and other organic compounds.
