Hexamethyltetrasiloxane is a reactive, alkynyl-terminated divalent hydrocarbon that reacts with a variety of organometallic compounds to form siloxanes. These reactions are catalyzed by magnetic particles and can be performed at room temperature. Hexamethyltetrasiloxane has been shown to form polymers with a range of viscosities, which are suitable for use in many applications such as reaction vessels, optical coatings, and reactive functional groups. Hexamethyltetrasiloxane is chemically stable and has been shown to be a solid catalyst for low energy reactions.
