Mesityl chloride is a molecule that reacts with hydroxyl groups to form an ether. It can be used as a reagent in organic synthesis, for example in the preparation of glucosylceramide. Mesityl chloride has been shown to cause cancer by reacting with radiation from X-rays or gamma rays, which forms DNA adducts (biphenyl) that bind to DNA and prevent cell replication.
