Trans-4-Nitrostilbene is a functionalized stilbene derivative that has been shown to be an efficient acceptor for long-wavelength UVA radiation. The fluorescence of trans-4-Nitrostilbene is quenched by nitro groups, which are attached to the aromatic ring. Trans-4-Nitrostilbene also emits light with a red shift and has high solubility in organic solvents. Trans-4 Nitrostilbene can be used as a fluorescent probe for studying the structure of organic molecules or as a photosensitizer in photodynamic therapy.
