4-Chloro-±-methylstyrene is a liquid phase styrene monomer. It is soluble in many solvents and can be used for the synthesis of reactive polymers. The monomer has been shown to be an efficient alkylating agent, with a high yield and short reaction time. 4-Chloro-±-methylstyrene reacts with chloride ion to produce the corresponding chloride ester, which can be reacted with a grignard reagent to form an organometallic compound or with amines or alcohols to make amides or ethers respectively. This monomer has also been shown to be effective in cationic polymerization reactions. The molecular descriptors of this product are: H = 10.97; C = 18.06; Cl = 35.45; O = 16.92; N = 5.14
