Methyl 9-octadecenoate is a metal hydroxide that is found in natural products, such as methyl esters, methyl glycosides and waste water. Methyl 9-octadecenoate has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the removal of metal ions from wastewater. It also can be used to produce acid methyl esters, which are useful for analytical methods. The reaction of Methyl 9-octadecenoate with methanol produces methyl myristate, which has been shown to have a variety of uses as a structural analysis model system.
