Berubicin is a chemotherapeutic agent that inhibits the activity of two enzymes, topoisomerase I and II. It has been shown to be effective in treating glioma patients. Berubicin has been shown to inhibit the uptake of pemetrexed, a cancer drug, in t47d cells by crosslinking its uptake protein. This inhibition prevents the drug from entering the cell and reaching its target site. Berubicin also triggers apoptosis by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins necessary for cell division. The molecular pathogenesis of berubicin is not well understood, but it has been shown to have an effect on cd-1 mice with melanoma cells.
