2,4,6-Trichlorobenzene-1,3-diol is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of chlorinated hydrocarbons. It is an intermediate in the production of pentachlorophenol and other chlorinated compounds. The chlorination of 2,4,6-trichlorobenzene-1,3-diol can be achieved by introducing chlorine or hypochlorite into the molecule. A ring opening mechanism was observed for this compound in the presence of base. This reaction led to formation of a new ring with two chlorine atoms on one side and one chlorine atom on the other side. This reaction is known as a high yield process and can be used as a model compound for other chlorinated compounds.
