Cisapride is a type of drug that is used for the treatment of heartburn associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease. This drug acts as a serotonin 5-HT4 receptor agonist that promotes the release of acetylcholine neurotransmitters. This results in a relaxation of the pyloric sphincter and an increase in gastric emptying.
