Pretilachlor is a herbicide that belongs to the class of chloroacetanilides. It is used for the control of weeds in agricultural fields, and to control aquatic plants in water bodies. Pretilachlor has been shown to have no significant effect on soil microorganisms, but can cause adverse effects on certain enzyme activities and nutrient solution. Pretilachlor is metabolized by plants and animals, mainly through oxidation or reduction. Pretilachlor has been shown to block the apoptosis pathway in some types of cells, which may be due to its ability to bind with glucocorticoid receptors. Pretilachlor also binds with fatty acids and can be detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) or liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS).
