Beiwutine is a specific antibody that belongs to the pharmaceutical preparations family. It has been shown to be effective in treating inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatic arthritis, by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators. Beiwutine binds to aconitine alkaloids and inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β). The main source for this drug is from plants in the Aconitum genus and it is used in traditional Chinese medicine preparations. This drug also has been shown to inhibit NF-κB expression, which causes inflammation.
