Trihexyl(tetradecyl)phosphonium Dicyanamide (TTPCD) is a quaternary ammonium salt that is synthesized by the reaction of ethylene diamine and metal hydroxides. TTPCD has been shown to have a high solubility in water and low viscosity. It has been shown to be an inhibitor of sulfonic acid catalyzed reactions, such as the hydrolysis of acetylsalicylic acid. This compound also inhibits the production of prostaglandins, which are inflammatory mediators, by binding to the active site on cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1). TTPCD binds to COX-2 at a much lower rate than COX-1.
