Sematilide is a drug that is used for the treatment of bowel disease. It has been shown to have cardiac effects, such as atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, and may be useful in treating congestive heart failure. Sematilide also has anti-arrhythmic properties. The drug is classified as a low potency antiarrhythmic agent with a class III effect on the heart. Due to its low potency, sematilide does not cause any significant side effects on the heart muscle. This drug has been shown to be effective in experimental models of myocardial infarcts and can be used in combination with other drugs that are more potent than sematilide.
