3-(Piperidin-4-yl)pyridine dihydrochloride (3PP) is a natural compound that has been identified as a novel inhibitor of the mitochondrial membrane potential. 3PP is also an anion radical scavenger, which could be responsible for its protective effects against oxidative stress in cells. 3PP has been shown to inhibit the tumor growth and inhibit locomotor activity in mice. The drug also inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines and induces anti-inflammatory cytokines. In addition, it has been found to have inhibitory properties on MCL-1 protein, which is a key regulator of apoptosis.
