VO-OHpic trihydrate is a potent inducer of neuronal death in vitro and in vivo. The biological properties of VO-OHpic are not fully understood, but it has been shown to bind to toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and inhibit the mitochondrial functions of cells. It also has a pathogenic mechanism that involves the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) signal pathways. In cancer tissues, this drug is shown to target PD-L1 and pd-l1, which are transcription factors that regulate the expression of tumor suppressor genes. VO-OHpic trihydrate has also been shown to cause cardiac dysfunction and fetal bovine serum albumin (BSA) synthesis in mice.
