Pigment Red 53 is a red pigment that absorbs light in the visible range. It has been used in in vitro assays for the determination of hydrochloric acid, and as a test compound for radiation-induced lymphocytic leukemia. Pigment Red 53 has an absorption peak at 522 nm, with a molecular weight of 442. It is soluble in water, methanol, acetone, and chloroform. The structure of Pigment Red 53 consists of a hydroxyl group and two diazonium salt groups (at the end).
