2-Nonene (cis- and trans- mixture) is a biomimetic that has been shown to be effective in healthy control subjects. It is found in the acetonitrile fraction of an extract from the leaves of the plant Melicope elliptica. 2-Nonene (cis- and trans- mixture) has been shown to have antitumor activity against human cervical carcinoma cells and against hif-1α, a transcription factor important for cell survival. The mechanism of action is not yet known, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit cholinergic neurotransmission or its interaction with nitric oxide synthase.
